REUNION WAS A HUGE SUCCESS

Thank you to everyone who came to the Reunion and helped to make it the huge success that it was. I loved getting to see everyone in person finally. And all your dishes were so good!! Thank you again! Let's not take another huge gap in time to see each other again!

Happy 4th of July

Just wanted to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. I hope that you all have nice weather today- we are currently fighting off the rain out here in Rochester, NY.

....we're down to the last few days/weeks now before the reunion. I can't believe how fast it has come!! But, I am so very excited to see you all in just a few short weeks. If anyone else in the family still has pictures they want to send my way, I need them by July 9th AT THE LATEST!!! I leave the next morning for Pittsburgh-- and I need everything to be done before I leave. I have been uploading pictures and getting prints ordered all week/weekend. And, I need to be able to have them all shipped and ready in PA before I get there. So please be sure you have them ready for me! We do have quite a bit.

Aside from all that, all you need to do is show up! I can't wait to meet all of you in person finally. The reunion starts at 4 but you can come a little earlier. There will be signs posted by the Kmart in N.Versailles, and coming from Wall so that you are able to find the location of the reunion for those of you who have never been there before.

I will also have name tags for you all so that we can know who everyone is. I figured that would help you all. I be there to greet you all as you come in. :)

Today's blog is to wish my cousin Nargess a very Happy Birthday. I hope it's a great one. Wish I was going to be there to celebrate with you!! (This picture of us is an old one from 2002 but I love this picture!)

Food, Food, and more Food!

Just wanted to remind everyone that as we're inching closer to the reunion, please be sure and let me know what you will be bringing for your dish to pass. This is something that I am trying to keep track of so that I can be sure not everyone brings the same things. We would like to have as much of a variety as possible.

I also was asked this weekend about the venue and what it has available to heat up food, keep it warm etc.. I also was asked who will be providing the drinks (pop, water, coffee etc...):

In an effort to clear up these questions for you, ill explain how it's all going to work. The venue is a very nice sized area (I don't know how many of you have been to it before). But, they do have a full kitchen and ice machine that we have access to. The only thing is-- if you use the kitchen to make your food or heat things up etc.. be sure and wipe up any spills so they dont take it out of my security deposit I'm having to give them the day of.

There also is a large food table (well its actually two of them put together) that will be out on the floor of where we are having the party. If your food is something that needs to be kept warm, you can simply bring a crock pot that we can plug in for you. Or a microwave safe dish that we can use in the oven or microwave to re-heat your item if needed. Again, if you bring any serving utencils please be sure they are labeled with your name so we are sure who to return them to, as well as your dishes.

I will be getting all of the paper plates, cups, and utencils that we will be needing. I will do that all when I am there this summer the week before the reunion. I also will be getting a variety of pop as well as some lemonade and or juice for the little ones. And we will also have water and possibly coffee available as well.

Invitations, RSVPs, & Food

Happy Thursday everyone.

Hope this weeks blog finds you in good health and happiness. As I'm sitting here writing this tonight, I can hear birds chirping and see the sun is still out-- its beautiful weather out here in Rochester. Finally Spring has decided to stay a while!!

Anyways... so, all of the invitations have been officially mailed out -- and should be coming to you shortly. Please be sure to send back your $ and your RSVP card NO LATER THAN June 28th. We need an exact count as there are only so many people that the venue can hold. Which is why the count is so important. However, I noticed upon finishing up the mail that the RSVP cards were not designed with a spot to reply NO as in your not coming... heh. Super sorry about that, I didn't catch it as they were designed. So, if by chance you're not coming please indicate somehow on the RSVP and be sure to send it back to me. You can just write 0 in the spot that asks for the number of people coming, and you can just write on there "we are not attending" or etc... That will help me out so much.

Food: Please let me know as soon as you decide what you and your family would like to bring for the dish to pass. I'm trying to keep track of everything so we dont end up with multiples.

**Just to Clarify a few things on Food: **

Your item DOES NOT have to feed EVERYONE.. if we find out we're having 200 people that does not mean you need to bake a casserole or dessert etc to feed 200 people. Just bring a dish of a size that you would like to pass along and it will be just fine. If you are traveling from out of town, feel free to pick something up at the local grocery store or deli that is fine with me.

If you are bringing items such as serving utencils, dishes etc... Please be sure to label it somehow so at the end of the night when we are doing clean up ... that will help to know who it needs to go back to. Also, whatever is left in your dish you can just take home- that way we dont have to pack up tons of food --- unless people want to bring things home and of course you're more than welcome to make a plate to take with you.

What else... hmmm... The reunion STARTS at 4pm, you are more than welcome to come anywhere between 3-4pm. And it ends at 10pm. Should be a lot of fun, I am really interested to learn the final count once all the RSVP cards come back.

Aside from all that.. I will be taking lots of pictures that day-- I have some family photo shots I'm hoping to get. Thats' what happens when I have too much time on my hands, and browse pinterest and find the photography inspirations they have on there. But there has been quite a few of them. :)

Are We There Yet?!

So as I sit here to blog tonight, I orginially had a different blog in mind... But then I was thinking about it and something else popped into my head.

I cannot express enough the importance of coming to this reunion- unless of couse something comes up and you absolutely cannot make it. But, thinking of the fact that there hasnt been a Drakulic Reunion since 1970... Thats SUCH a long time ago... so much time in between that there should have been one and there wasnt. There aren't that many people left in my Grandma's generation anymore. And I know it would mean the world to them to see everyone together again. We all aren't getting any younger, and unfortunately as time goes by we see our extended family less and less -- usually at holidays, weddings, and sadly funerals. I'd like to see as many people at this as possible. Let's make it memorable!! Plus, there's so many of you I want to meet!

**Just a reminder** within the next few weeks the invitations will be going out- please kindly send back the RSVP card. As, this is a situation where we need an accurate count for many aspects of this event. Thank you so much!!! Also, please be sure to include your families fee for the reunion with the RSVP card. ($5/per person)

God Bless Boston

Still in shock over the events of today that were covered on the news of the horrific violent acts at the Boston marathon today. May God Bless all of those families and loved ones who were there today. As well as those who had a loved one there. I hope they are able to find who did this to all these innocent people.

May those who lost their lives rest in peace.

Ramblings of the Serbian Sweetheart

Wow--- April 14, already, huh?

....This year is just going by SO fast.... I feel like each month goes by faster than the one before. I personally, am getting excited for the Reunion as it gets closer and closer. I also am feeling much more accomplished with the "To-Do" list and where it stands as of right now. I currently have almost all my photo books completed. I also have all the table center pieces purchased. Invitations are ready to be mailed. (They will be going out next month) and the Dish-to-Pass list has been organized, I just need to know what everyone is bringing as its gets closer.

I am attempting to put my crafty mind to work to see if I can find a way to make a cute "favor" to hand out to everyone. I am bouncing some ideas around in my head, we will see what I come up with. We have done magnets and such on my Mom's side of the family before. I just have not decided what I want to do yet.

Congrats are in order...

I just wanted to take a minute to extend my love to some members of the family who have achieved some exciting milestones in their life recently. My cousin Laura Drakulic just got engaged to her boyfriend Jim Thompson, congrats to you both and I wish you many many years of happiness and love together.

Also, another cousin Jaclyn Cheripka and her fiance Chad Duriez will be getting married in one week, so exciting. I also wish you both many years of happiness and love.

Spring Ahead

I don't know about you but it's finally starting to look like spring in Rochester.. We're just hoping it stays! Spring weather has me thinking happy thoughts of lots of outside fun (Amusement Parks, taking my kids outside at my preschool and playing etc..) it also has me thinking about the reunion as its becoming closer and closer.

I hope all is well with all of you and that you will all be able to join us on that very special day. I am still busily working on the small details that I need to have finished before the big day.

Photos are still welcome for anyone who has some that they'd like to be included.

Also ideas are welcome if anyone had anything in mind that they wanted to run by me for activities and such please let me know!

I'll talk to you all soon, I'm going to try to stay on top of these blogs. We were out of town for a few days so I hadn't had a chance over the Holiday weekend.

Good Morning Family!

Good Morning!

Just a few things I wanted to share this AM. First off, I got the invitations in the mail yesterday and they look AMAZING!!!!!! I am so excited to send them out to you all. They were handmade on Etsy and it was well worth it. Those will be coming your way in May, along with the RSVP card. They will be due back in June, with the $5 per person fee we're asking from everyone. It is VERY important that the RSVP cards come back because I truly need an exact count from everyone because the numbers are so tight with the number of people allowed in the facility!!! So please be sure to send yours back.

Dish-to-Pass: As you think of what you'd like to bring, please be sure and let me know. I am going to be keeping a list of everything so that we dont end up with more than 2 of the same dish. This way we can make sure we get a variety of items to eat and enjoy. We do ask that you please bring your item in a labeled dish, and that any serving spoons or other utencils you bring are also labeled. That will help with clean up at the end of the night. There is a full kitchen in this facility however, if it is not cleaned up properly they will be charging me $200 to pay for it-- so please make sure if you are in the kitchen cooking we clean up whatever messes we might make.

I will be providing the Pop, Coffee, Water, and some juice for the little ones. You are welcome to bring your own if you want, but just know that there will be some of those there and available. I will be sure to get a variety. Also, again, you will all be responsible for bringing any alcohol you want to have at the reunion. We are not allowed to get it from the venue itself.

Pictures: I am still accepting them via email, facebook, or mail. You let me know if you still have any you'd like to share. I have a bunch so far, but I know some of you had some you wanted to send along that I haven't gotten yet. You still have time, but just let me know! (: I also am still working on putting together some photo books for you all to see and enjoy. Remember all pictures and photo books are yours to take with you at the end of the reunion. I also haven't been able to get in touch with the Bucholz Family or Kathleen Hill (Ike's Daughter) to see if they had any pictures they'd like to contribute. All I have for them right now is a mailing address, I dont have email or any other contact info. If anyone does and would like to contact them for me, please let me know!

Lastly, as we get closer to April we're getting closer to the reunion!!! Its only 3 months away and I'm super excited!

R.I.P. Dave

Just wanted to extend my condolences out to the Cheripka side of our family for their loss of their family member Dave D'Amico. I am very sorry for your loss, and I am sending lots of love your way. We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers as you get through this tough time. Corn Hole

...So, the last few weeks Marco and I have been talking about reunion and bouncing ideas off of each other. I've been doing the same with Jared. Between the three of us we've had some pretty good ideas of photo opps or decorations etc.. But lately, we've been talking about games. And one that has come up from both of them several times now is "Corn Hole". Never in my life have I heard of this game, and was recently informed that I clearly live under a rock! haha. Marco sent me the youtube link for a video explaining what it is, and it actually sounds like fun. So the boys are going to be bringing that with them so we can play on teams and have some fun. Let's just pray its a nice day!!!!

....The invitations have been ordered! They are so amazing. I had a lady on Etsy make them for me and all I had to do was provide the pictures. You will have to wait and see them when they come to you in may. You also will be getting an RSVP card.. which will NEED to be returned as its very important that we have an exact count for this event. You also will need to be mailing your $$ into me with your RSVP card which you can make out a check addressed to me or cash what ever you prefer. Please remember it is $5 per PERSON (a family of 4 would owe $20 and etc...) This is going towards the decorations, rental fees, and some paper products as well as pop water and coffee.

....Also start to think of what youd like to make for the dish- to pass.. if you've forgotten what category you were assigned shoot me an email and I'll get you the list: drakulic_reunion@aol.com The whole idea behind the assignments is so we dont have multiple people bringing the same things. We want to get as much of a variety as possible. You'll also want to be sure any pans or dishes you bring along with serving spoons are labeled with your name so we know who to return them to at the end of the night.

And lastly, I am still accepting any pictures you would like to send my way. I've gotten quite a bit so far and they are awesome. So thank you to those who did send some along!

A Glimpse of Spring

There sure is nothing better in March than looking out the window and realizing the snow has melted away and that you can actually see the sun shining outside. Sure puts you in a great mood, I'm loving it. I just wish it was here to stay!

It definitely is putting me in a motivational mood for the reunion planning. 4 months away and counting! I'm so glad I decided to take the responsibility to organize this reunion. I hope everyone is able to make it because you never know when we will all be together like this again. A lot of planning and time has gone into this but I think it's going to be simply amazing. And I hope to see each of you there!

Dish to pass updates

Hey everyone! Happy Saturday. Hope you're all enjoying your weekend and this beautiful weather. So, I've been working on the dish to pass. Thought I'd further explain it... As we get closer to the event I'm going to need to know at you all are making and or bringing. Anyways, I have assigned everyone categories just because it makes it easier to help prevent multiple items from coming in. I also wanted to remind everyone that the money for the reunion is to be mailed back with the invitations. You'll be getting an RSVP card which I will also need back. It's very important that I get these, because we need to know an exact amount of people that are attending. Again, the charge is $5 per person, it will be going towards some decorations, rental fees, and possibly some food (meat) that my family will be providing. I am open to any ideas anyone might have, now is the time to tell me, while I'm still planning. I'm getting very excited for all of this to come together. Also, any questions or anything you're wondering about, feel free to contact me. I'm pleased to say that I officially have all the contact information I need, and the invitations have been ordered, guest book, table cloths, and name tags too. We're moving right along :) xoxoxo

This and That

Sorry for my delay in updating this blog everyone. I get so used to updating the Facebook site that I often forget to update this as well. The Facebook site is up to 62 members and it's becoming a very active group which I love!!

I have gotten SO many pictures from
so many family members so far and I just want to extend a thank you out for all those that have come in. I truly appreciate everyone helping me out with this. Some pictures have been blown up to 8x10 and will be hanging up around the venue. At the end of the reunion you can feel free to take home what you'd like from those. Same goes with the photo books all of that will be up for grabs for each family who would like them. The idea is that there will be one photo book created for each family as I should have enough photo books for that.

People keep telling me this reunion is all everyone is talking about. I'm quite excited I hope that this means that were going to have a big turn out :)

Cherished Memories..

.....as I've been going through pictures lately, it makes me think back to all those who have passed before us. Those who will be there with us in spirit at the reunion, but would love to be there in person. They are the reason we are all coming together, to reunite our family- and share in the love with one another and create new memories to be passed on from generation to generation. One day my Generations' children will be sitting around talking about how we all had this reunion way back many years ago and they wonder what some of our family members were like. And they will never know except to relive in our memories through the pictures that we have left behind. I can't think of a better time to begin creating new memories then at 26 years old. To many that doesn't seem "old" but I am definitely not getting younger and feel that making new memories is something that needs to happen. It was such a nice feeling when I found out that I have cousins from my generation, my same age, most that I've never met. I made it to 26 years old with never having met these people, yet we're family. I know families grow older, they move away from home, they go their separate ways. But we have to remember that it shouldn't always take time like these to bring a family close together. We shouldn't have to live life by only getting everyone together for a wedding or a funeral. We shouldn't have to wait to pick up the phone and call one another until there is a big event someone has planned and is requesting our presence at it.

....My family always says that I am the one who is going to follow in my Great Aunt Onnie's footsteps and be the glue who holds this family together. Surely I cannot do such a job on my own, but family is SO important, and we have such a huge family. As Jared told me earlier "We're kinda a big deal." We are.. we totally are.. we ARE a big deal, a big huge Serbian Family who has waited years and decades to come together and enjoy each others company. To me this is rather sad. Sad to know that there hasn't been a family reunion since the 70s, my dad was just a preschooler back then my Gram said when they had the last one... to know we have waited this long to bring us all together, is rather sad. My goal, infact my mission, is to not just walk out of that reunion and go back to my normal every day life, forgetting those cherished memories we've all made.. but to pick them up and carry them with me so that we all can continue to create new memories down the road. We dont need a yearly reunion to make this happen... I started making it happen just by planning a Saturday night with some "new" cousins to head out for drinks, so we can mingle and catch up on the years of our lives that we've missed out on oppourtunities to get to know one another sooner. I plan on making that a plan to see them when I am "home" in Pittsburgh and we are all available and free to see one another.

Let this be your mission too.. pick up the phone and call someone, make a lunch date, or just a simple call to see how they are doing.. it would probably bring a huge smile to their face. Lets create memories together that the future generations will live through with a smile when they look back on our pictures one day.

This & That

Good Morning family,

Hope this Sunday morning finds you all in good health and happiness. I have been so busy keeping my Drakulic Family group on Facebook updated, I haven't put some of those updates here, so I need to do that today. As well as adding some pictures that some family members have shared with me.

A few things I wanted to share with you all....

First off, the venue we are having the reunion at, has a huge field, swing set, and horse shoe pit. I personally don't have any horse shoes, but if any of you do, you are more than welcome to bring them. Also if you have a volley ball net, or any outside type activites, you are more than welcome to bring them. Just make sure you remember to take them home with you. :) Anything you'd like to bring for kids to do, by all means feel free. There are a bunch of little ones that will be there.

If anyone would still like to join the Facebook group, you are more than welcome: Drakulic Reunion. Just ask to join, and I will add you in with the rest of us. It has grown to 60 family members. We would love to find more.

I created a Shutterfly photo sharing site, for everyone to upload their pictures to after the reunion. Then anyone who is a member on the sharing site can order prints of any of the pictures on there. This easier than getting a photographer I feel . The address to see the photo sharing site is: Drakulicreunion.shutterfly.com nothing has been done with the site yet, but you do have to sign up for a membership I believe in order to view the site. Now, shutterfly is FREE and when you create an account you get 50 FREE 4x6 photo prints so be sure and sign up, you wont regret it. That means you can get 50 of your favorite reunion pictures printed for FREE!!!!!! And, all you pay is shipping, which is about $2-$3 ! Can't beat that!

Lastly, I'm thinking of doing a contest, for a small prize. My guest list is 233 people, I want everyone to make a guess at how many people total will be there-- the closest person will get a prize. :) I just thought this could be something fun we can do.

Hotel Accommodations

I put together a list of all the hotels in the area so you can check them out and decide where you'd like to stay if you're coming in from out of town. Please note that this does fall on Serbian 3 Day weekend and hotels fill up FAST. Our friend last year couldn't find a room in any of the local hotels for that weekend due to everyone coming in for Serbian Day so please make sure you get a head start on that maybe a bit before hand. I'm so excited to see you all. Feel free to email with questions. If you're a member of the facebook Drakulic group Ive already posted this info there. I have directions from all the hotels to the reunion venue which I will be getting to you with your invitations.

...I'm currently listening to the Beatles as I write this blog today. And the song Let it Be is stuck in my head, hence the title of this blog today.

I sat down to write this blog today with much excitement because of some family members I have had the luck of finding on Facebook to add to our group. Again, if you have a Facebook account and you'd like to be a part of my group to get all the updates and chat with us: just search Drakulic Family Reunion and you just have to request "join group" and I will approve you. We have went from 42 family members to 55 over night. It's quite amazing honestly. I love "meeting" new people even if it electronically until we all meet in person this summer. Please spread the word to family and friends. My goal is to get as many people as possible into my group or at least by email. It's so much easier to get the updates to you this way.
